Bihar Calling for Help!

Due to damage in the three kilometer barrage over Kosi River in Nepal, Bihar is witnessing the WORST EVER FLOOD in the history. Nearly 3.5-4 Milliom people have been affected. The inundated areas are Supaul, Madhepura and Araria districts of Bihar and floodwater is spreading into adjoining districts of Purnea and Saharsa. According to an International NGO ActionAid whose workers are on the ground it's likely that 2000 people have died. The situation is worse than ever.

People are sharing there shelter and food with snakes, dogs and cats on trees.They are running hither and thither continuously crying for help and starving to death.

Few of them can be seen fleeing to safety on the 28-km stretch of NH 106 between Madhepura and Saharsa. In this worse situation also, there are some devils who are robbing people and taking benefit of victims' misery. Our leaders are not behind. They are busy blaming each other for the condition rather than posing soltuions for this National Calamity.

But, there are some people also who are trying their best to help their fellow countrymen who are in great need right now. Army is doing it's best to reach the flood affected areas and provide people with necessary food and clothing.

Can you see the innocence in these eyes? Aren't these eyes calling for help? The question now is can't we help these people? If we won't help them then who will? To what extent UNICEF and UNO can help? It is us who have to take the charge. If we cannot go to the ground then we can help financially or in some other way.

All of us must be having some t-shirts or shirts or pants which we rarely wear and at last we simply throw them away. We can give away these clothes for the flood victims. We can gift unused 'unexpired' medicines. Our contribution can save the lives of millions. Don't hesitate to come forward.

If you want to help financially then,
Please contribute generously towards the Chief Minister Relief Fund, Bihar.

Pratik, do add some information about how IITians (specifically, IITK students) can contribute...I believe Prof HC Verma and others have set up a fund/system to assist in aid efforts.

And keep up the good work.

@maverick
thanks and yeah i will do that for sure. But, as far as I know, from IITK Students, funds, medicines and clothes have already been collected.

Yes, a (second?) mail was sent soon after I left that comment, so I guess everyone in IITK knows how to contribute now.
